I believe that it is  extremely important to “Take a Kid to a Car Show”.  The show provide hours of entertainment for the kids but it will also expose them to the collector car hobby. After all, they are the next generation of caretakers for the hobby.  To attract the kids to the show, last tear we had our first “Hot Wheel” drag competition for the kids.    It was fun for all and it will be back this year. Thank you AMRO for your contribution to make the event successful.

The future of old cars depends on our kids. We need to get them interested in old cars to keep the hobby going. My husband's first car was a Barracuda 40 years ago. When our son was 10 years old we took him to a car show. When he was 15, he bought a 1970 Duster for $ 200. He restored it with his family's help and now at age 22, takes it to car shows. I always try to get kids to our shows. The ARMO Take a Kid to a Car Show is a great program that is helping me with my shows.

If we as adults don’t teach the Children of today about our Cars Trucks, the only place they will see them in the future shall be MUSEUMS.  I personally attended 15 cars shows and 45 Cruises in 2010, everywhere I went I handed out your window stickers. They really work, organizers all asked me where I got the Window Stickers, I told them just write to ARMO and ask. The idea of Coloring Pages is excellent I also pass out lots of coloring pages to the kids that visited the shows I am at. Again this year I shall drive my 51 Merc to a lot of shows and cruises give kids rides, and talk to them about the cars of the past.

My 7 year old grandson loves the old cars, his first words about the Merc was My Car, and yes, I shall make sure it gets left to him when I decide to leave this world. He knows the history of the Merc and our friends that have old cars, he knows them also. “Educate before it’s too late” we say.

I am a director in The Southern Illinois Street Machines, and have been so for 10-11 years.  We have appreciated your stickers to pass on for the last few years.  I think it is very important that we do take our children and grandchildren with us to the car show and let them learn of the beautiful cars of the past.  Its good clean family fun at the car shows and some (like ours) even have children’s games and events.  One day (and I hope this never happens) the old cars of the past will be crushed and all that will remain is our memories and pictures of these cars.  We need to teach our young people about these cars, about all the fun and good will that the car shows promote.  We use the proceeds of our shows to help people in nursing homes who have no families, and children who will receive no presents at Christmas.  We also support a woman’s and children’s shelter with our money.  It is a lot of hard work to put on car shows (we do 3 per year) but we know the profits of the shows will be put to good work.  This year we also helped a family who had no water due to a high bill not being paid.  We paid their water bill and had it turned back on, gave them a gift certificate for $100 for a local grocery store, and bought several nice presents for their children. Thank you for all you do.
